When Sidney Lee Coleman was born on September 13, 1894, in Cord, Arkansas, his father, James, was 28 and his mother, Lena, was 26. He had one daughter with Mattie Alice Cole. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company K, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on February 26, 1918 of poison gas attack in France at the age of 23 and is now buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Cord, Independence County, Arkansas, USA.
