When Charles Edward Stillabower was born on December 18, 1898, in Bartholomew, Indiana, his father, William, was 35 and his mother, Samantha, was 27. He had one brother and two sisters. He enlisted in the Army on April 10, 1917 and embarked for overseas on October 31, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 21, 1918 (at the age of 19) and is now buried in Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana, USA.
