Vernon James “Vernie” Collins, aged 22, was born on October 4, 1921. He was the son of Charles Harrison Collins and Ida May Trammel Collins. Vernon served in the 363rd Infantry, 91st Infantry Division as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 8, 1944 in the battle around the area of Ponzalla in Italy and is now buried in the Smith Mountain Cemetery, Dinuba, Tulare County, California, USA.
