When Arthur James Nelson was born on October 12, 1892, in San Jacinto, California, his father, Edward, was 27 and his mother, Julia, was 24. He had three brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company F, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 (at the age of 25) in France and is now buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France and ranked as a Private.
