Porter Byrd, aged 29, was born in October 1888 in Newberry County, South Carolina. He was the son of Foster Byrd and Della Johnson Byrd. Porter served in Company D, 371st Infantry Regiment, 93rd Division (Colored) as a Private during World War I. He died on September 30, 1918 and is now buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
