Edward Thomas Ratcliff was born on December 31, 1894 in Kingman, Fountain County, Indiana. He was the son of Anderson and Alvessie Ratcliff. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company B, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 (at the age of 23) in France but his current burial place is unknown. His name is commemorated on the Buzancy monument but listed in the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division.
