Sgt. Johnny F. Heggood was from Alabama, born in 1921. He enlisted on 24 February 1942 and volunteered for parachute duty. He was assigned to 2nd Platoon, Company B, 505th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division. He participated in the invasion of Sicily, Salerno, Normandy, Holland, Bulge. He would have been credited with 3 Combat jumps for Sicily, Salerno, and Normandy. He was killed in action at Abrefontaine, Belgium on January 5, 1945. Around this time, the 505th were being attacked by Panthers and artillery at Abrefontaine. He is now buried in Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, USA.
