When Forrest Irvin Isom was born in January 1897 in Missouri, his father, Christopher, was 26 and his mother, Mary, was 24. He had two brothers and two sisters. He entered the military service in Oregon and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company I, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 21, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as F R ISON.
