Carl E. Berggren was born on April 14, 1891, and was from Woodhill, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company C, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action in 1918, at the age of 27 and is now buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Blue Island, Cook County, Illinois, USA. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Bergeren.
