When Albert Agnew was born on November 23, 1899, in Keokuk, Iowa, his father, Charles, was 31 and his mother, Ida, was 27. He had one brother and six sisters. He enlisted in the Army in 1917 in West Virginia and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 20, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.
