When Joseph W. Boyce was born on May 22, 1896, in Frederick, Virginia, his father, Franklin, was 28 and his mother, Mary, was 25. He had three brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in HQ Company, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 2, 1918 (at the age of 22) and is now buried in Queens Meadow Point Cemetery, Keyser, Mineral County, West Virginia, USA.
