2nd Tank Battalion, 9th Armored Division
Details:
In the middle of a pedestrian park, in front of the Clervaux Castle. Combat Vehicle A Sherman tank, model M4A3, used in combat in the Clervaux region, which sits on a stone base. In front of the tank is a plaque dedicated to the 2nd Tank Battalion of the 9th Armored Division in honor of their defense of the city.
(NOTE: As of 2020 the tank has been removed and is being refurbished in Belgium. It is unknown when tank will be returned to Clervaux.)
Monument Text:
The plaque reads:
"This U.S. Sherman M4A3 (76) of Company B, 2nd Tank Battalion, 9th Armored Division, is the only known surviving combat vehicle of the division. Put out of action on December 17th, 1944 while defending Clervaux here at the gate to the castle.
Dedicated by CEBA in 2003"
