Pennsylvania Monument

Details:

The large memorial is directly behind the park at 1 Rue du Gen Pershing overlooking the Aire Valley.  Monument The memorial was erected by the State of Pennsylvania in 1927 to honor all who gave their lives in France during WWI. It is constructed by the Pennsylvania Monuments Commission and was designed by architects Thomas H. Atherton and Paul P. Cret. It features Greek-style columns surrounding a large terrace and central memorial structure. Various images and designs are carved into the different parts of the memorial and engraved red text on the central structure is in English.

In honor of her troops who served in the Great War 

among whom were the liberators of Varennes 1918
and in grateful appreciation of their service
this memorial is erected by the State of Pennsylvania
