5th Division Stele of Doulcon

Details:

Located directly behind the town's war memorial at the intersection. Marker This marker is a white concrete stele that bears the red diamond insignia of the 5th U.S. Division and 2 metal plaques.  One plaque commemorates the the liberation of the town of Doulcon on November 3rd, 1918 by the 5th U.S. Division. The other plaque commemorates the bridge in the town crossing the Meuse River, which was used by the 5th Division during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and the 7th Engineers, who constructed this bridge. This stele is 1 of 28 identical steles located throughout France that have been erected by the 5th U.S. Division to commemorate their many accomplishments during World War I, particularly during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.
