The marker sits on the west side of Rue Raynoaurd at the intersection with Rue Singer facing east.  Marker The gray metal triangular marker sits atop a pole against the corner building. It features white and orange engraved text and the image of Benjamin Franklin. All text is in French. 

The marker notes the site's historic significance as the location of the H๔tel de Valentinois where Benjamin Franklin was a regular guest from 1777-1785. When visiting, Franklin was hosted by Le Ray de Chaumont and was able to garner French support for the American War of Independence. Today the adjacent building serves as part of a school.

propriétaire avait acheté l'immeuble d'en face pour

l'abattre et y interdire toute construction. Il est le

théâtre, de 1736-1774, des fêtes galantes

données par la comtesse de Valentinois, belle-

fille du prince de Monaco Intime de Mme du

Barry, elle y convie ses amis libertins car "à

Passy on s'amuse." De 1777-1785, Franklin,

envoyé solliciter l'aide de la

France lors de la guerre d’In-

dépendance des Etats-Unis,

y est l’hôte de son ami

Le Ray de Chaumont.

Aujourd’hui, le collège

St-Jean de Passy

occupe une partie

du domaine.

Under the Old Regime, this hotel has one of the most beautiful views of Passy since its owner had purchased the building across the street in 1711 to discourage and restrict any construction. It was a theatre from 1736-1774 where gallant parties were held by the Countess of Valentinois, daughter of the Prince of Monaco Intimate Madame du Barry. She invited her libertine friends because, "in Passy we have fun." From 1777-185, Franklin, sent to enlist the help of France in the United States War of Independence, was hosted by his friend Le Ray de Chaumont. Today the Saint-Jean-de-Passy school occupies part of the area.
