17th Airborne Division Glider Memorial
Details:
The memorial is located in the northern side of the Peace Garden which can be accessed near the southern, main entrance to the park. Monument The memorial consists of a red metal plaque with white embossed lettering in English. It is framed by a red brick base and features unit insignia and names of 31 American soldiers of the 194th Glider Infantry Regiment and 2 pilots of the 88th Troop Carrier Squadron killed on site when a Horsa glider crashed on 12 December 1944. The memorial was inaugurated by the 17th Airborne Division Association on 12 December 1994 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the crash.
