Monument

A stone monument with French gold leaf text features the names of five French civilians and five American soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division who were killed in the October 25, 1944 explosion at the Monplaisir sawmill. The monument includes crossed French and American flags as well as the insignia of the 3rd Infantry Division. The monument was erected at the initiative of Jean-Marie Siret of Frémifontaine. The monument was erected by the town of Les Rouges-Eaux, in cooperation with the neighboring villages of the Brouvelieures community. It was fabricated by RIGHINI Granit Firm from Grange-sur-Vologne, and it was funded by the town of Les Rouges-Eaux, the Brouvelieures community, Souvenir Francais, the Frémifontaine Veterans’ Association, the Hollard family of Brouvelieures, and Mr. Dominique Pierson ofThaon-les-Vosges.
