Du 15eme RI US le 26 janvier 1945.

Pour repousser une contre-attaque ennemie

Pour cette action, il fut décoré

Des plus hautes distinctions Américain et Françaises.

In Memory

This memorial is dedicated to the soldiers of the 3rd US Infantry division and the CC4 under the command of the First French Army who liberated Holzwihr on 27 January 1945 after bloody combat in awful conditions. 

They represent the heroic actions that were performed here by Lt Audie Murphy of the 15^th Infantry Regiment, 3^rd Infantry Division on 26 Jan 45. For repelling an enemy counterattack, for this action he was decorated with the highest American and French awards. In passing, respect this memorial and do not forget that the soldiers died so that you can live free.
