Le 29 mai 1943, le B17 "Yardbird" piloté par le lieutemant TROJAN, fut victime de la flak alors qu'il venait d'accomplir sa mission de bombardement sur Saint-Nazaire.

Une des hélices devint incontrôlable, la perte de vitesse l'obligea à quitter le dispositif défensif adopté par les bombardiers. Les chasseurs allemands se ruèrent alors sur lui.

Atteint à l'arrière où gisaient plusieurs bléssés, le pilote préféra faire demi-tour et ordonna l'ordre d'évacuer l'appareil au dessus du continent.

La forteresse incontrôlable tombait vers 16h45 à proximité de la ferme de Kervégant à Pleubian.

Le copilote VAUGHAN dont le parachute ne se serait pas ouvert tombait dans un champ près du manoir de Pen crech'.

Le mécanicien PRESCOTT devait décéder de ses blessures le 4 juin malgré un don du sang de deux menbres de son équipage.

Le navigateur STEWART, malgré l'aide d'une habitante de Pleubian, était fait prisonnier à son tour et rejoignait le reste de l'équipage pour internement en Allemagne.

On May 29, 1943, the B17 "Yardbird", piloted by TROJAN, fell victim to the flak while accomplishing its bombing mission over Saint-Nazaire.

One of the propellers became uncontrollable, the loss of speed forced it to leave the defensive device adopted by the bombers. The German fighters then rushed on him.
