A stone plaque with French text, commemorating the arrival in the town of Benjamin Franklin in 1776. Heading for Nantes, his ship stopped here, apparently due to bad weather, and he spent the night of 4 Dec 1776 in this building. He finally arrived in Nantes on 7 December and in Paris on 21 December.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Benjamin Franklin disembarked in Auray on 4 December 1776. He was sent to France by the United States of American to negotiate the first alliance between the two countries. 4 December 1776.
