Captain Cunningham Memorial
Details:
On the left side of the road, 200m from the intersection. Marker The a stone tomb with two stone panels, one in English and the other in French, that was the previous isolated burial of Captain Oliver B. Cunningham. The tomb now stands as a memorial to Captain Cunningham.
Assigned as a liaison officer near the front with the 15th Field Artillery Regiment of the 2nd Division, Captain Oliver Baty Cunningham died on on the morning of September 17,1918, when a German shell hit their position killing all occupants.
A complete restoration of the monument was undertaken and the original plates were replaced. The cost of the restoration was supported by Reseau Ferre de France, as compensation for the construction of the TGV Est. The work was directed by Denis Mellinger.
