The memorial remembers four B-17 that crashed in the Yonne during WW2.  Five crew members of the b-17 "Slightly Dangerous" are buried nearby in Isolated Graves (ISOBs).  See site Champigny Cemetery.

United States Army Air Force dont dépendaient les quatre bombardiers B17

Flying Fortress tombes dans le nord de l'Yonne au cours de la guerre 1939 - 1945,

au retour de missions de bombardement sur l'ALLEMAGNE
