Plaque

A rectangular black plaque honoring the crew and passengers of B-17G 43-38847, which crashed and killed on November 25, 1944. The plaque displays the names, ranks, positions, and units of the fallen personnel and is written in English.

On November 25, 1944, at 15:20, a Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress (#43-38847) of the 40th Air Depot Group crashed into Titterstone Clee Hill, Shropshire, while en route from Stansted Mountfitchet to Langford Lodge, Northern Ireland. The aircraft, carrying three crew members and three passengers, encountered poor weather and became disoriented. While descending to determine their position, they deviated from course and, in zero visibility, collided with Du Stone Quarry on Clee Hill. All aboard perished, with Corporal John E. Bean dying en route to Ludlow Hospital.
