Plaque

A rectangular memorial plaque honoring the crew and passengers who perished in the crash of the B-17G Flying Fortress on November 25, 1944. It displays their names, and ranks, and is inscribed in English.

On November 25, 1944, a B-17G Flying Fortress with serial number 43-38847 departed from Stansted Mountfitchet en route to Langford Lodge. The aircraft carried three crew members and three passengers. During the flight, they deviated 28 degrees off course and, in an attempt to determine their location, descended below the overcast. Unfortunately, in zero visibility conditions, the plane crashed into Du Stone Quarry on Clee Hill near Ludlow, Shropshire. All on board perished, with Corporal John E. Bean succumbing to his injuries en route to Ludlow Hospital.
