Museum

The Memory Space (l’Espace Mémoire) is a unique type of museum telling the history of the local area during World War 2 through its numerous objects.  Each object is connected to a special story telling the history of the opposing forces and local citizens during the winter of 1944-45 fighting through the Maginot Line and during Operation Norwind in the Bitche area. The 100th Infantry Division also known as the "Century" Division or the "Sons of Bitche" played a prominent role in this area during WW2.

Among the poignant stories is that of an American flag hand-made by a local citizen and flown over the city after its liberation in March 1945. The Memory Space has identified the local citizens and US Army Captain involved in this famous photo.
