26th Cavalry Philippine Scouts Monument
Details:
The left side monument.
Monument
A stone monument honoring the soldiers of the 26th Cavalry Regiment (Philippine Scouts) who died in the Philippines, particularly in Lingayen, Luzon, and Bataan during World War II. Identical monuments, differing only in their bases, can also be found at Fort Riley, Kansas.
The unit holds the distinction of being the last U.S. cavalry regiment to execute a horse-mounted charge, notably delaying Japanese forces during the Allied retreat to Bataan. Serving as the primary reconnaissance force for the Philippine Department, it played a critical role in securing key roadways and repelling enemy attacks, despite suffering heavy casualties.
