Marker

Two white gateposts stand as markers at the entrance to Fort Stotsenburg, a former U.S. military fort established in the early 20th century. Adjacent to the gateposts, on the right, is a trapezoidal block that holds a rectangular plaque. This plaque provides a historical overview of the gateposts and their significance. The memorial was erected by the Thirteenth Air Force on July 4, 1984, and has its emblem.

FORT STOTSENBURG GATEPOSTS

 

THESE POSTS STOOD AT THE DAU GATEWAY TO FORT

STOTSENBURG AND CLARK FIELD FROM THE EARLY

1900S UNTIL THE JAPANESE OCCUPATION OF THE

AREA IN 1942. THE JAPANESE DUG THEM UP AND

USED THEM FOR LANDFILL. THEY WERE FOUND BURIED

INTACT, RELOCATED IN 1965 TO THE SITE OF THE FORMER

AMERICAN LEGION POST CLUBHOUSE, AND FINALLY

PLACED HERE IN 1984.
