The American Hospital of Paris     Incorporated under French law January 15, 1906  John H. Harjes, President 1906-1913  Opened to patients  March 30, 1910 Incorporated by act of Congress January 30, 1913     At the outbreak of the World War the American Hospital inspired, and was sponsor for "L'Ambulance Americain" where thousands of wounded soldiers of the allied Armies were cared for by volunteer American physicians, surgeons, and nurses, and which, following the entrance of the United States into the war, became Military Hospital #1 of the United States Army.  Out of the Motor Ambulance Service established in connection with this war-time hospital developed the American Field Service of Motor Ambulances.  During the war the American Hospital served as a hospital for the personnel of the American Red Cross.  Cornerstone of the Memorial Building laid June 18, 1923.  Memorial building opened to patients January 30, 1926.  Inaugurated May 12, 1926.
