Monument
A stone monument commemorating the 60th anniversary (1944-2004) of the D-Day landings, emphasizing the port's role as a crucial fuel supply hub for the Allied forces. Carved from gray stone, it features raised depictions of tanks, ships, and pipelines, with the American and British flags on either side, symbolizing the cooperation between the two nations. The monument displays the words "Port-en-Bessin" and "Pôle Pétrolier du Débarquement" (Petroleum Hub of the Landing) prominently, along with the dates 1944 and 2004. Its design captures the strategic importance of Port-en-Bessin in supporting the Allied advance during World War II. The monument was designed by the Norman sculptor Didier Poisson and is written in French.
