Plaque
A rectangular black plaque standing on a metal base honoring the soldiers of the 6th Armored Division, part of the Third Army led by General Patton, who crossed this bridge on August 1, 1944, during the liberation of Brest. The plaque features the division's emblem, a portrait of General George S. Patton, and the United States flag, with the inscription written in French.
On August 1, 1944, the 6th Armored Division crossed the Pontaubault Bridge over the Sélune River. This crossing, facilitated by Major General Robert W. Grow's command, enabled the division to push rapidly into Brittany, opening a path for Patton's Third Army to advance toward key strategic targets like Brest.
