Monument

A black stone slab monument honoring the United States Naval Reserve servicemen who lost their lives during the D-Day landings at Utah Beach on June 6, 1944. The monument is written in French.

The U.S. Navy Reserve (USNR) played a crucial role in the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, at Utah Beach, which was one of the key landing zones during the Allied invasion of Normandy, an operation critical to the liberation of France from Nazi control. The USNR personnel, along with engineers and medical staff from the Navy and Coast Guard, were instrumental in supporting the 4th Infantry Division's landing. These sailors cleared obstacles, managed logistics on the beach, and provided medical care to the wounded, all under heavy enemy fire. In addition to infantry, Navy reservists were essential in coordinating reinforcements and sustaining the advance inland despite German defenses and difficult beach conditions. Their work ensured the success of the amphibious operation and contributed to the larger Allied effort on D-Day.
