On June 15, 1944, La Bonneville was liberated as part of the Allied advance following the D-Day landings. The 9th Infantry Division's 60th Infantry Regiment led the advance in this area, encountering German forces while moving to secure strategic positions. They faced stiff resistance from German forces, including tanks and infantry. Despite initial setbacks, the regiment managed to reorganize and secure their objectives, capturing prisoners and advancing the Allied front.
