Monument

A gray obelisk monument which is a town war memorial that also commemorates the airmen of the B-26 aircraft inscribed in French and incised lettering. The B-26 Marauder (41-34810), nicknamed "Classie Lassie," was a medium bomber assigned to the 323rd Bombardment Group (Medium) and the 456th Bombardment Squadron. On June 29, 1944, the aircraft was on a bombing mission over France. During the mission, it encountered technical difficulties that forced the crew to attempt a landing in the countryside near the former commune of Omonville-la-Rogue. Unfortunately, the aircraft crashed, killing 5 crew members and resulting in the destruction of the plane. They are also commemorated on the monument at the crash site.
