Battle of Bruyères Knot of Friendship Sculpture -442nd Infantry
Details:
A few meters to the south of the monument.
A metal sculpture resembling a stylized knot monument mounted on a stone pedestal bearing a rectangular bronze plaque with a commemoration message written in French. The monument was a gift from the 100th Battalion Club, the 442nd Club of Hawaii, and the 100th/442nd Veterans Association in the USA. It was officially dedicated on October 16, 1994, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Bruyères, a key engagement in the liberation of the Vosges region in October 1944.
The artist behind the sculpture is Shinkichi Tajiri, a Japanese-American sculptor who himself served in Company M of the 442nd RCT, making the monument a personal and symbolic gesture of friendship and remembrance. The knot symbolizes unity and the enduring connection forged during the hardships of war between the people of Bruyères and their liberators.
