Plaque
A rectangular white plaque in the shape of a book commemorating Cpl Snider who died on August 18, 1944. The plaque is written in French in black lettering.
Landing on French soil at the end of June 1944, the 1,500 men of the 106th Cavalry Regiment to which Corporal Snider belonged, were tasked with informing the Allied forces of the German positions and thus securing the advance of General Patton's troops.
On the morning of August 18, 1944, the American troops whose objective was to reach Épône were stopped in their progress by a German convoy in the fields between Orgerus and Osmoy. After an exchange of fire, Corporal Snider's squadron was forced to flee, abandoning a vehicle on the spot. The clash resulted in five deaths: three German soldiers and two Americans, including Corporal Snider.
