Plaque

A rectangular white plaque featuring the portrait of PFC McDonald flanked by the 315th Infantry Regiment and 79th Infantry Division insignias and then followed by the commemoration message. The inscription is written in French.

 

After landing at Utah Beach on June 14, 1944, McDonald's unit advanced towards Cherbourg, a strategic port held by German forces. On June 19, 1944, during an assault near Yvetot-Bocage, McDonald was wounded while attempting to cross a road under heavy German fire. His injuries were severe, and despite medical efforts, he passed away on June 20, 1944, in Valognes.
