General Omar Bradley & 1st Army HQ Monument
Details:
At the backside of the roadside stop next to three flagpoles.
A large field stone with an inscribed marble plaque attached to the front; an adjacent plaque is increased in French.
The memorial remembers General Omar Bradley and the soldiers of his Headquarters who operated in the adjacent field during the Normandy Operations and developed the plan for Operation Cobra.

The plaque is inscribed in English; a separate plaque is inscribed in French. The English reads:
Here at Pilier de l'If Vouilly
GENERAL OF THE ARMY OMAR BRADLEY
Commander of the 1st US Army
Stayed from July 2nd to August 2nd 1944
Together with 760 men and officers
sleeping under tents in the adjacent orchard.
The general had established his HQ in a modified truck.
On July 20,1944
at the American Press Camp
Located at the Castle of Vouilly
He shared the plans La Percee d' Avranches
He undertook OPERATION COBRA on July 25th
which allowed the troops to reach Brittany
and ultimately to clear the roads to PARIS
This plaque was inaugurated
on June 10th 2018 in memory of our Liberators
