332nd Fighter Group (Red Tails) Ramitelli Airfield Memorial
Details:
On the side of the road on the face of a building on Via Delle Querce.
A wall mounted white marble inscribed plaque.
The plaque remembers the 332nd Fighter Group that was stationed at Ramitelli Airfield in WW2. The gRoup consisted of the 99th, 100th, 301st, and 302nd Fighter Squadrons, also know as the "Red Tails", flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. The 332nd was commanded by Colonel Benjamin Davis.
Special thanks to G. Marini for assistance with this memorial. Giuseppe is a local historian of World War II allied aviation in Campomarino (Molise region, Italy ) and re-discoverer of Ramitelli, Madna and Martino airfields.
