The monument, erected in 1994, is dedicated to Wilson and his contributions to Poland’s independence. On Jan. 8, 1918, Wilson gave his Fourteen Points speech, which focused on a peaceful way forward from World War I. Point 13 stated “An independent Polish state should be erected which should include the territories inhabited by indisputably Polish populations, which should be assured a free and secure access to the sea, and whose political and economic independence and territorial integrity should be guaranteed by international covenant.”
