An inscribed brass plaque attached to the front of pentagon shaped concrete monument with crossed swords.
The memorial remembers the South West Pacific Area Command which was commanded by General Douglas MacArthur during WW2; the Headquarters of this command was located here after its conquest during Operation Reckless in 1944. From this location, MacArthur and his subordinate units planned the invasion of the Philippines.

AT THIS LOCATION. ULTIMATELY BASED AT SENTANI
WERE: GENERAL HEADQUARTERS SOUTH WEST PACIFIC AREA COMMAND; UNITED STATES ARMY FORCES IN THE FAR EAST;
FAR EAST AIR FORCES; SEVENTH FLEET; FIFTH AIR FORCE;
SIXTH ARMY; EIGHTH ARMY; ALLIED LAND FORCES AND ALLIED AIR FORCES. PLANNING AND STAGING FOR THE INVASION OF THE PHILIPPINES WERE CONDUCTED HERE UNDER THE DIRECTION OF GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR.
