Plaque

A rectangular explanatory plaque that is inscribed in English in white lettering. Also on the plaque are the 305th Bombardment Group (H) Memorial Association and the 8th Air Force insignias.

Monument Text:

THIS TOWER

was restored with the help of

the 305th Bombardment Group (H)

Memorial Association.

The Group was based at an airfield

near this Church from 1942 to 1945

during the Second World War

and consisted of four Squadrons,

the 422nd, 366th, 365th and 364th,

plus attached units, which flew

B-17 Flying Fortress Bombers

as part of the Eighth Air Force of

The Armed Forces of

The United States of America.

 

 

This plaque was dedicated

on the 24th September 1980

in memory of more than 769 men killed

and also those wounded during

the 480 missions flown by the Group.
