Private Olav Haastad served with the 40th Engineer Combat Regiment. He was killed on August 30, 1944 during "Operation Dragoon". He was killed along with two other soldiers were killed while clearing mines. A memorial also remembers Haastad and the other two soldiers in Vence, France.
