A standard upright British military inscribed gravestone.
Lt William Anderson Solheim was a US pilot serving in the RAF (180 Squadron). He took off piloting B-25 (41-12571) (FL707) on a bombing run over the military construction works at Couville, France. Part of the second wave of bombers, Solheim’s plane was struck by an injured B-25 hit by flak and careening towards the ground. Solheim lost control of the plane and crashed as well. He perished in the crash with the rest of his crew.
He also remembered on a nearby memorial in Tréauville, France.
