A historical marker attached to a concreter pillar in front of a model of the USS Gar (SS-206).

The marker remembers the US Navy submarine, the U.S.S. Gar (SS-206) resupply of US- Filipino Special Forces.

From US Navy Heritage Website:

On her 14th war patrol (3-30 November), SS-Gar landed 16 men and 25 tons of supplies at Santiago Cove, Luzon, Philippine Islands, 23 November; picked up intelligence documents, and terminated her patrol in Mios Woendi lagoon. On her 15th and final war patrol (4-27 December), she landed 35 tons of supplies on the west coast of Luzon, near Duriagaos Inlet 11 December, returning to Pearl Harbor with urgent intelligence documents including maps locating enemy gun emplacements, beach defenses, troop concentrations, and fuel and ammunition dumps on Luzon.

San Esteban Landing Site
Twice surfacing at Santiago Cove on November 21, 1944, the
USS GAR landed on this beach. Commandos of the Army of the United States
with equipment, arms, ammunition and supplies led by Capts. William
Vaughn and William Farell were Lts. Fred Behan and Donald Jamison with
two other Americans and Larry Guzman with other G Filipinos of the First
Filipino regiment. The landing was effected by USAFIP-NL under Col.
Russell W. Volkmann with other paramilitary and guerilla units. By order
of Volkmann, Jamison and Maj. Ferdinand E. Marcos sneaked through the
cordon of Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita to an air strip in Isabela and flew to
Camp Spencer”.
