Corporal Gannon, an Irish National, was a member of the 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division.
He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Hoengsong, South Korea during the Battle for Wonju and Chipyong-ni on February 13, 1951.
He entered service Cleveland Ohio but he was from Dooniver, Achill, County Mayo.
Corporal Gannon was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
