405th Fighter Squadron Monument

A granite stone monument in the shape of a triangular prism inscribed with a commemoration message that is written in French and English in gold lettering. On the top center is the insignia of the 405th Fighter Squadron.

Ce monument est
dédié à tous les hommes du 405e Escadron de
combat du 371e Groupe de combat de la 9e
Armée de l'air des Etats-Unis d'Amérique.
Les pilotes du 405e FS de combat se sont bravement
portés volontaires pour voler par une
visibilité quasi-nulle et sous le feu de l'ennemi
pour fournir par largage des réservoirs
auxiliaires d'essence emplis de vivres et de
munitions aux hommes assiégés de la 36e
Division d'Infanterie Américaine, aidant leurs
frères d'armes à survivre jusqu'à ce qu'ils
soient secourus par le 100/442e RCT
en octobre 1944.
Le 1er Lieutenant Robert A. Booth a donné
sa vie pendant cette mission, et repose au
Cimetière Militaire Américain d'Epinal.

je me chercherai un refuge dans l'ombre de
tes ailes jusqu'à ce que la calamité passe... il
m'enverra du ciel le salut"

This memorial is
dedicated to all the men of the 405th Fighter
Squadron, 371st Fighter Group, 9th Air Force,
United States Army Air Corps
The pilots of the 405th FS, bravely
volunteered to fly in near-zero visibility and
under enemy fire to drop bellytanks of life-
sustaining supplies to the besieged men of the
36th IDUS, helping their brothers-in-arms
survive until rescued/relieved by the
100/442nd in October 1944.
1st Lt. Robert A. Booth gave his life
during this mission, and is interred at
Epinal American Cemetery.
Psalms 57, "Be gracious to me, O God ... And in
the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge
until the destruction passes by... He will send
from heaven and save me"
Presented to the people of the Vosges by the
family of Lt Col Eliel Archilla on behalf of all
the families and friends of the 405th FS.
