Monument Text:

On 16th February 1945 at 5:50PM 1st Lt Donald H. Huff from the 368th Fighter Group/396th Fighter Squadron lost his life tragically on this spot after returning from a bombing mission in Germany. The railway facilities near St. Thomas and Densborn where the target on that day. While on return he informed his Squadron by radio that he has some smoke in his cockpit and had to do immediately an emergency landing. During the belly landing near the "Ollergronn" at Schoos, he struck a tree and his P-47 caught fire. 1st Lt Huff didn't manage to leave the plane and burned dreadfully in his cockpit. We would like to commemorate him and all the pilots and soldiers who gave their lives in WWII for our freedom.
