B-26 Marauder (43-634146) Memorial
Details:
The stele is in a forest clearing approximately 10 meters on the north side of the intersection.
A dark headstone-style marker engraved with a commemoration message and the list of names of the crew inscribed in French and gold-leaf lettering. Taking off on November 9, 1944, from Beauvais-Tillé (Oise) for a bombing mission over Landau and from the bridge over Trier (Germany), following an engine failure probably due to icing, the B-26 crashed with its bombs, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., in the Vau forest near Gondrecourt-le-Château. The crew belonged to the 452nd BS of the 322nd BG of the 9th Air Force. There were no survivors. During the inauguration of the memorial, the sister of the 1Lt Lipsky was present and left there a photo of him for the stele.
