Details:
On the east side of the road.
A rectangular bronze plaque containing a commemoration message and a list of names of the crew and their status. The plaque is written in French in raised lettering and is mounted on an oval-like boulder. On the top-left corner of the plaque is the 305th Bomb Group insignia. The monument is often obscured by ivy or flowers.
B-17 #42-5220 was shot down on April 16, 1943, by German fighters while heading for the submarine base in Lorient for a bombing mission. Five members were Killed in Action, and the other five survived but were taken as prisoners.
