Details:
Next to the Mt. Suribachi Flag Raising Monument at ground level. Plaque A bars inscribed plaque attached to a concrete base about one foot tall.
The plaque remembers the United States Marine Corps Cameraman, Sergeant William H. Genaust who was killed by a sniper while filming the second flag raising on Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima on March 4, 1945.
Sergeant Genaustes body was not recovered after the battle and he is listed on the Court of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial in Hawaii.
